Olympe is a software of modelling and simulation of the economic organization of farming systems developed by INRA/ESR in collaboration with CIHEAM-IAMM, CIRAD and other partners. It gives possibility to conduct sufficiently detailed functioning modelling of farming systems to identify income sources, production costs, profitability analysis depending on technical choices and production systems, and monthly analysis of labour needs.

Olympe provides simulations of economic results at various scales: cropping system, animal breeding system, production or activity system, as well as farming systems (Olympe uses the systemic approach with definitions of systems as defined by Jouve 1997 and 2016 ). It allows comparisons of technical and economic results of cropping or animal breeding systems, and also between farming systems. Its aggregation module allows a regional approach by group of farming systems. Any technical or organizational innovation can thus be analysed within the farming system or the regional scales, with its impacts.

Olympe is made of several modules (activity, farm, set of farms, treasury, hazards...) with a database and a calculator (spreadsheet type) optimized for farming systems economic characteristics. Automatic functions allow a quick calculation of margins (by surface, labour, and at the level of the farm general account), main farm economic results and balances at farm and regional scales.

Manual functions allow easy answers to classical economic questions through the definition and use of variables or indicators, and allow an adaptation of balances and results and of data presentation to the needs of the analysis. All data and results can be exported to a standard spreadsheet (such as Microsoft Excel) which allows a finer and specific analysis of every data set and better quality figures and graphs.

Olympe is a reliable tool that allows quick and easy economic analysis, without automatisms to generate divergent results. It is a researcher tool but is being used by students, and technicians working in the agricultural sector. It is very user friendly and benefits from an online help in French only at this stage).
